CONTROVERSY! I Love Children’s (ILC) president Joni Ong yesterday stood firm on the advocacy group’s message to get people procreating earlier. She said: “We want to get people’s attention. Yes, these ads are very much in your face, but they generated talk that we didn’t get in previous years.”

Too bad most of the talk seems to have been negative. Here’s the message people appear to have for ILC: Mind your own business. If you haven’t seen the ads yet, see our report here.

Controversy! Over a “pro-rape” advocate who apparently wanted to hold a meet-up this Saturday at Fort Canning Park. Mr Daryush Valizadeh, known online as Roosh V, has cancelled the meetings supposedly to be held in 43 countries, citing safety concerns as details of the meetings leaked online. To prevent rape, Mr Valizadeh had advocated making rape legal on private property.

Controversy! The Singapore Island Country Club is offering a “poverty simulation” class for its well-heeled members to “help participants to be aware of situations and the consequent hard decisions that people living in poverty have to face every day”.

Thinking of signing up? Sorry, members only. You could try calling Methodist Welfare Services, which is conducting the class. A spokesman said the programme aims to stir compassion and nudge participants towards doing more for the community.

In other news, the Trans-Pacific Partnership was signed by its 12 member states yesterday and the countries, including Singapore, now have two years to ratify the controversial free-trade agreement.

Whatever views you may hold about the use of drones, the G has embraced the technology and will be calling for a master contract to use drones for surveillance and inspection, among other purposes.

And finally, Dr Daniel Goh from the Workers’ Party (WP) has been given the third Non-Constituency MP seat. The seat, vacated by Ms Lee Li Lian, had attracted some controversy last week during a Parliament Debate when WP chief Low Thia Khiang described NCMPs as “duckweed” with no roots in the community.
