Mother, son killed in LPT2 crash

KEMAMAN: A 32-year-old woman and her three-year-old son were killed when the car they were travelling in slammed into a divider at LPT2, near Perasing, here, today.


District police chief Superintendent Mohd Said Ibrahim said both victims, Fatimah Al-Zahrah Zainol Abidin and Al-Fateh Mohd Shahrulnizam, died instantly in the 1.15pm incident at KM264.1 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2).


He said Fatimah's other son Al-Faris, six, sustained a broken left leg while her husband, Mohd Shahrulnizam Alias, 32, escaped with light injuries.


The couple and their two children were on their way to Selangor from Kuala Terengganu when Shahrulnizam, who was driving the Proton Saga lost control of the car and crashed into the divider.


Mohd Said said the injured victims were sent to the Kemaman Hospital for treatment while Fatimah and her son's remains were sent to the forensic unit for post mortem.


"The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
