“Mr. Lightning” Lerdsila Wants To Leave No Doubt In ONE Super Series Rematch

Lerdsila Phuket Top Team returns to ONE Championship action in Jakarta looking to make a statement.

The Muay Thai ace is scheduled to face Cambodia’s Sok Thy in a ONE Super Series flyweight rematch at ONE: WARRIOR’S DREAM that looks set to light up the Stadium Istora on Saturday, 17 November.

The pair previously met at ONE: PINNACLE OF POWER in June in a bout that marked the occasion of both athletes’ ONE debuts.

The two all-action martial artists served up an exciting three-round clash that went all the way to the judges’ scorecards.

In the end, it was Lerdsila’s slick counter-striking that tipped the balance in his favour as he earned a narrow split-decision victory.

Now the man known as “Mr. Lightning” is set to face Sok Thy for a second time. The three-division Rajadamnern Stadium World Champion says he is better prepared to compete at his best under Muay Thai rules and plans on sealing a more definitive win.

“In my debut with ONE, I was still adjusting to competing in Muay Thai again,” he says.

“The sweeps and clinch are different than the K-1 rules I had grown used to while fighting in China.”

Lerdsila also admitted he was surprised by how effective his opponent was during the contest, particularly in their close-quarters exchanges.

“I was surprised at how strong he was. This time, I will be more prepared,” he adds.

“I have a lot of respect for my opponent. He’s a young up-and-comer in the sport.

“Each match I have with ONE Championship, I want to do my very best.”

While Lerdsila will head into the bout sharper than in the first contest, Thy is likely to be equally ready for the rematch.

The 21-year-old National Kun Khmer Champion has the distinction of being the first Cambodian to challenge for Muay Thai World Championships at both the Lumpinee and Channel 7 Stadiums in Thailand.

He knows victory over the vastly more experienced Lerdsila could catapult him to stardom. But the Thai star has lofty ambitions of his own in ONE Super Series.

With 30 years competition under his belt and a record of 187-31-5 to his name. Lerdsila has all the experience he needs to compete and win at the highest level.

And on 17 November he plans on defeating Thy for a second time and propelling himself towards a ONE Super Series World Title.

“I want to continue to keep fighting for ONE Championship, and my goal is to become a champion within ONE Super Series.”
