Folks have been tickled by a campaign carried out by insurance company Prudential, which challenged anyone above the height of 1.2 meters to do 20 squats within 40 seconds to score a free ride on the MRT. Sure, it’s just a single-trip ticket only useable on the day that you win it, but a free train ride nonetheless.
Knowing Singaporeans and our capacity for cheapness, the #DOsquatschallenge campaign might even create a population of strong-legged commuters.
Speaking to Chinese-language daily Lianhe Wanbao, Prudential Singapore Chief Customer Officer, Goh Theng Kiat, said that the company hopes to encourage Singaporeans to stay healthy as their life expectancy increases. Aside from brand awareness from viral write-ups on social media, of course.
Currently, the booth can be found at Tampines MRT station until Apr 3 before it moves to City Hall MRT station, where it’ll stay put till Apr 17. According to Wanbao, at least 600 commuters have already participated in the challenge since it was first set up on Mar 21.
The concept ain’t exactly original anyway — commuters in Moscow did the exact same thing in 2013.
