MRT halts trips after man jumped on tracks

Operations of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) have been disrupted early Wednesday reportedly due to a passenger who got killed after jumping into its tracks.

Commuters already aboard the train had to get off even before it reached the Guadalupe Station, where the apparent suicide had been reported.

"An unidentified man allegedly jumped in front of a train at Guadalupe Stn that resulted to death," the Department of Transportation and Communications said via Twitter.

Police have arrived on the scene to investigate, the tweet added.

Trips from the Guadalupe to Taft Stations have temporarily been halted due to the incident.

"MRT is on provisional operations from North Ave. to Shaw stations and vice versa until further notice," DOTC said in an earlier tweet.

Passengers of the usually crammed train plying EDSA had to take other means of transportation, causing traffic buildups in several areas.

The Metro Manila Development Authority said in a tweet: "[E]xpect heavy traffic situation due to volume of passengers from MRT."
