MRT service from Jalan Semantan to Kajang begins in July

PETALING JAYA: Phase two of the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) 1 line, from Semantan to Kajang, covering a distance of 30 kilometres and involving 19 stations, is expected to be fully operational in July.

RapidRail Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Ir Zohari Sulaiman said the service will extend from the current Sungai Buloh to Semantan route, which began operations in Dec last year.

"According to MRT Corp’s plans, phase two of the MRT 1 route is expected to be launched in July, when the route from Semantan to Kajang will be opened," he told reporters after launching the Rapid Rail Fiesta at the Sri Damansara Light Rail Transit (LRT) station here, today.

Zohari said the fiesta is an initiative by RapidRail to liven up the LRT station so that commuters would be enticed to use the LRT as their preferred mode of public transport.

He added that various exciting activities will be held on the weekends during the fiesta, which will run throughout April, including food sales, entertainment shows and celebrity appearances.

More than 60 vendors are taking part in the fiesta, which runs from 10am to 10pm. -- BERNAMA
