MUKAH: Police yesterday apprehended a man suspected of raping a teenage girl here.
Mukah District Police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau said the suspect, 21, was arrested at around 2.30pm.
"The suspect will be remanded today (Sunday) to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code," he said when contacted.
The alleged crime was uncovered when the 15-year-old, who had stayed home from school for feeling unwell, was sent for a check-up at the Mukah Hospital because of pain in the genital area.
The doctor who examined the victim suspected something amiss and lodged a police report.
According to Jimmy, the teenager claimed she had been having sex with the suspect since last year. She said the most recent incident occurred last month, at a budget hotel here. -- BERNAMA
