ALOR STAR: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today submits a permit application for a debate with his former special officer Haris Che Mat.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) deputy president has proposed that the debate would be held at Dewan Perhimpunan Melayu Kedah here, either on April 27 or May 5.

The Ayer Hitam assemblyman also suggested that the debate be called "Kekayaan Anak-anak Tun Mahathir vs Kekayaan Riza Aziz, Siapa yang Halal dan Siapa yang Haram?".

In his notice submitted to the Kota Setar police this evening, Mukhriz said the building management has agreed to allow its premises to be used as a venue for the debate.

It was reported that Haris, who had served as Mukhriz's special officer when the latter was the Kedah Menteri Besar, has challenged Mukhriz for a debate to explain an allegation that he had amassed more than a billion ringgit worth of wealth in a short period.

Mukhriz had accepted the challenge and pledged to donate RM500 million each to Jerlun and Pokok Sena constituencies should Haris able to proof his allegation during the debate.

Haris had applied for a permit with Kubang Pasu police to hold the debate in Padang Sera early this month, but it was rejected on technical ground and objection from local residents who fear for their safety.

In response, Haris recently said he would apply for a new permit the debate but has yet to decide on a new proposed venue.
