Mulberry captures the spirit of Christmas with festive campaign

The Mulberry Holiday 2016 campaign, directed by Albert Moya

The British fashion house is launching into the festive season with its traditional Holiday campaign. This year's offering features a dysfunctional family with a mother who criticizes everyone, two constantly bickering sisters and a brother who's hiding a secret. In a video lasting almost two minutes, Mulberry captures the meaning of Christmas while showcasing one of its iconic bags.

What's really original about this Holiday campaign is its cast. Directed by Albert Moya ("American Autumn") and written by Hugo Guinness ("The Grand Budapest Hotel"), the short film stars child actors in all the roles, including Beau Gadson and Darcey Brown Sutton.

Filmed in the county of Surrey at a property formerly owned by the Duchess of Roxburghe, the campaign is split in two parts and tells the story of a traditional British family Christmas. The ad shows how the spirit of the season helps a family understand that "it's what's inside that counts," which is also the title of this short film.

Two sisters who bicker constantly are brought closer together thanks to this Christmas spirit. In a festive gesture of warmth and generosity, Rose decides to give her Bayswater bag -- an iconic Mulberry creation -- to her little sister. Finding only scraps of leftover paper, she wraps it quickly and poorly but, in the end, that doesn't matter, "it's what's inside that counts."

"When I was a kid, all that I wanted to do was to be grown up so I could be like my dad. Now that I am an adult, I just want to be a kid again! Christmas brings out the kid in all of us, and this is what I love about using children to tell our story this year," explains Mulberry creative director, Johnny Coca.

Landing with a trailer, this film is the first installment in Mulberry's two-part Christmas campaign. Part two is set to premiere November 28.
