Munah Bagharib To Co-Host Asian Television Awards

It’s YouTube royalty up on the big stage.

Munah Bagharib, one-half of YouTube sensation MunahHirziOfficial, will be co-hosting the upcoming Asian Television Awards (ATA) on Dec 3 at Suntec Convention Centre. This was after co-host Stephanie Carrington had to pull out after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Bagharib joins fellow co-hosts Allan Wu, Joey Mead King and Max Loong. All four are managed by artiste management company FLY Entertainment.

In a statement on the ATA Facebook page Saturday night, organisers said Carrington was diagnosed with mycoplasma pneumonia and has a low white blood cell count:

“Due the severity and acuteness of her symptoms, and in order to avoid hospitalization, Stephanie has been put on strong medication and is under strict instructions to rest by the doctor.”

Bagharib’s YouTube co-partner Hirzi Zulkiflie will also be attending the event. The show promises to be a star-studded night, with performances from Indonesia’s Anggun, K-pop girl group Secret, Chinese artiste Jeff Chang, and Swedish boyband JTR.

Joanne Peh and Xiang Yun are both up for supporting actress nods, while Lim Kay Tong, Chen Han-Wei and George Young are up for supporting actor nods. The Best Actor category has Pierre Png – who won in this category last year for drama Zero Calling – nominated again for the drama’s sequel, with another nod given to Christopher Lee. Felicia Chin and Suhaillah Salam are the two Singapore nominations in the Best Actress Category.

This is the first time the Asian Television Awards will be broadcasted live in its 20-year run. The event is part of the ongoing Singapore Media Festival.
