SEREMBAN: The discovery of a mortar bomb at Pasar Besar Seremban left a Seremban Municipal Council general worker, shell-shocked last night.
Mohamad Fareez Zakaria, 28, said, he found the bomb at the market’s garbage site at around 11pm, while he was cleaning.
He said he had earlier noticed two men, aged around 50, at the dump site prior to his discovery.
“I told them to put the garbage in the bin but they told me that it was too heavy for them to carry.
“As I was cleaning the area, I found the garbage bag disposed by the men and took it as I wanted to sell the item inside at the recycle centre. I didn’t know that the item was actually a mortar bomb,” he said.
Mohamad Fareez said he only realised what it was when he showed it to a friend.
“It was shocking. I immediately lodged a police report on the discovery,” he said.
When contacted, the state deputy police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Zaki Harun confirmed the matter.
“It’s an old bomb, normally used for training. It however is not capable of exploding,” he said.
He added, the mortar bomb has been handed to the bomb disposal squad and further investigations would be carried out on the origins of the bomb.
