Former Manchester United midfielder Lou Macari has criticised his old side's pursuit of Adrien Rabiot - on their own TV channel, MUTV.

United are trying to make late additions to their squad after a frustrating summer in the transfer market, with Juventus midfielder Rabiot emerging as a £15million target.

The club's football director, John Murtough, was pictured in Turin on Friday after negotiations with the player's mother as he attempts to seal the move.

But Macari has called out the move live on MUTV in another embarrassment for the club.

"I'd never really heard of him [Rabiot]," said Macari, who was speaking shortly after Erik ten Hag's press conference had finished.

"I can't see them [Rabiot's qualities]. Qualities you can see in black and white, or in this case, him not scoring goals.

"Football clubs spend millions and millions of pounds to put scouts out there across Europe to keep an eye on players.

"So if you were going to be a Manchester United scout and asked him [about a player], he would be able to give you a real breakdown of them. No-one has made a move for this fella. Why?"

Rabiot had previously been linked with Monaco but Macari was unimpressed, saying: "Monaco is good for dumping your money, dumping your money in the bank and going on holiday.

"But what has the football team ever done? It means nothing. Why aren’t the rest of the clubs in this country, that have done well in the transfer market, why aren’t Man City or Liverpool interested? You always need a good player. I just get a bad feeling about the guy."

Ten Hag appeared to rule out a possible departure for Marcus Rashford following interest from PSG.

“He's really important, you have seen from the first day I'm here, I'm really happy with him, I don't want to lose him, he's definitely in our plans at Manchester United,” Ten Hag said.
