The national squad booked its berth to the quarter-finals after beating Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the last match of Group C. Felda United midfielder Danial Amier Norhisham emerged as Malaysian hero after scoring the only goal in the match, enabling Malaysia to finish second in the sudden death round behind Iraq.
