Najib must deal with 3 unfinished business in Parliament, says DAP

No plot, I acted alone, says Umno man on 1MDB police report

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has called on Datuk Seri Najib Razak to present three "unfinished business" to Parliament before the current sitting adjourns on Thursday.

The three are the long-delayed Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on illegal immigrants in Sabah, the white paper on terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) and the controversial 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Referring to the RCI report, Lim said failure to table the report in Parliament by next week would denote a lack of political to resolve the long-standing problem and that the setting up of the RCI was just a ruse to secure votes for Barisan Nasional in last year's general election.

Electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 has given Putrajaya an ultimatum to table the report by Monday, failing which they would seek a meeting with the prime minister.

Najib was reported saying last week that the RCI report would be made public only in December although the report had been presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the government about six months ago.

The RCI on illegal immigrants in Sabah was held last year to probe into claims that migrants were given citizenship in exchange for votes for BN, the ruling coalition.

Some 200 witnesses were called to testify, including former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was said to be behind "Projek IC", which has also been blamed as the reason for Sabah's rapid population boom in a matter of years, a sore point with many locals and opposition political parties in the state.

Lim also called on Najib to table a White Paper on Isis, following a written reply from Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that a White Paper on Malaysians involved in terrorist activities was being prepared.

He said the White Paper had acquired greater urgency because of recent developments, which included Malaysia being placed among the top 50 countries in the Global Terrorism Index 2014 and the latest arrest of a man and two women by the police for alleged involvement in Isis.

"The tabling of the White Paper on Islamic State becomes even more imperative following the statement by the Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in Parliament that Malaysian Isis fighters were returning to spread militant ideology in the country."

The Gelang Patah MP also wants Najib to issue a ministerial statement on the scandal-ridden 1MDB to prove that he was not trying to shutter public queries and parliamentary debates on the financial health of the sovereign fund.

"In fact, Najib should give a public undertaking that his threat of a legal suit against Tony Pua will not be used to shut down any public questioning of any aspect of 1MDB deals," he said, referring to Najib's letter of demand to the Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua for his alleged “defamatory” remarks against the prime minister over 1MDB.

"Najib should not shoot the messenger just because Tony’s message demanded full accountability and transparency about the 1MDB scandal."

Lim called for the establishment of a bipartisan parliamentary select committee on the state-owned fund to ensure there was no impropriety in the government's involvement in 1MDB.. – November 23, 2014.
