Najib ticked me off over 1MDB, RM2.6 billion, Mukhriz tells supporters

Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said the prime minister rebuked him for raising questions about debt-ridden state investor 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). In a video, the former Kedah menteri besar is seen telling supporters this was why he had to vacate his menteri besar post. Mukhriz is heard saying, in the clip uploaded on the Mukhriz Mahathir FC Facebook page, that Datuk Seri Najib Razak told him it was not right for a menteri besar to criticise the prime minister, and he must vacate his post. “This was admitted to me by the PM personally. He was dissatisfied, and sore with me, because of my speech (about 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’),” said Mukhriz. Mukhriz said during the time he spent with the prime minister in Langkawi, Najib did not once raise any issue over his inability to administer Umno or the state. “He only told me that he was upset that I chided him in my speech,” Mukhriz said. It was unclear, however, to which speech he was referring. Mukhriz resigned as menteri besar on February 3, ending a tussle in the state which began when Kedah Umno declared on January 20 it had lost confidence in his leadership and wanted Najib to intervene. Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, who led the press conference, was sworn in as menteri besar the next day. – February 11, 2016.
