Natalie Portman Wore a Dreamy White Gown at Cannes

For film lovers, the Cannes Film Festival is one of the most exciting times of the year, as arthouse darlings and award season hopefuls alike make their splashy debuts, but for fashion fans, the annual event is less about the cinematography and more about the slew of stunning red carpet moments that inevitably flood out from the festival. Case in point, Natalie Portman, who attended the premiere of her upcoming film May December over the weekend in a breathtaking confection of a gown.

The custom Dior look was inspired by a museum piece from the fashion house's archives—a 1949 creation called the "Junon" which was itself inspired by the goddesses of Greek mythology. While Portman's look took a page from the classic Dior style, conservators can breathe a sigh of relief that its a recreation—the original is currently housed at The Met. Kim Kardashian sparked controversy last year after wearing Marilyn Monroe's historic "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" gown to the Met Gala, leading to a larger conversation about celebrities donning preservation pieces.

Crafted with a fitted strapless bodice and tiers of petal-like layers at the skirt, the dress was delicately embroidered with glittering beadwork in hues of pearl and navy. She accented the look with eye-catching diamond drop earrings, and white platform heels, as well as a classic sleek updo, nude lips, and dark-lined, silver-dusted eyes.

The Dior style was a natural pick for Portman, who has been a spokesperson for the brand's Miss Dior fragrance for over a decade.
