As part of commemorative efforts for 50 years of National Service (NS50), all Singapore national servicemen, past and present, will get to travel for free on public buses and trains next Friday (30 June) – provided they are in uniform.

All past and present national servicemen from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will enjoy free travel on public buses and trains operated by public transport operators Go-Ahead Singapore, SBS Transit, SMRT Corporation and Tower Transit Singapore on 30 June 2017, said a joint press release from the four companies.

The free travel will be effective from the first bus and train service right up till the last one. This includes Nite Owl and NightRider as well.

For verification purposes by bus captains and MRT station personnel, SAF national servicemen have to wear their No. 3 or No. 4 service uniforms while SPF and SCDF national servicemen have to wear their duty uniforms.

The participating transport companies added that the free travel was to express appreciation for Singapore’s national servicemen.
