National Youth Film Awards calling for submission

22 Jan – The National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) is back for its second edition and is now calling for participants to submit their films.

The submissions are open to Singaporean students and graduates (between 29 April 2015 and 30 April 2016) from media-related course/module at any Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) in Singapore.

The deadline for the submissions is this 30 April.

15 film industry practitioners will make up the jury this year, including last year's juries Jack Neo (J Team) and Joachim Ng (MDA).

Also joining the jury lineup are Vikram Channa (Discovery Networks APAC) and Lee Thean-jeen (Weiyu Films).

This year, a total of six new awards will be added to NYFA such as Best Character Design in Animated Film, Best Lighting Awards, Best Camera Work and more.

"Due to the outstanding entries to both Animation and Documentary categories, we have decided to increase the number of individual awards for those categories," said NYFA Awards Director, Nicholas Chee.

"We also know that there are many specific skill sets within the craft of Cinematography and after consultations with the industry, we've decided to recognise them as individual awards."

The winners of this year's NYFA will receive up to SGD2,000 per award, complimentary memberships to *SCAPEmedia Hub and more.

The inaugural National Youth Film Awards, which was held on 2 August last year, saw 238 submissions submitted, with 47 films from nine IHLs garnering nominations across 13 award categories.

Some of last year's winners are "November" (Best Picture, Best Direction & Best Screenplay), "Osmosis of Dad & the Love for Bubble T" (Best Cinematography & Best Original Music) and "Di Sana" (Best Sound Mixing & Best Sound Editing).

The National Youth Film Awards 2016 nominees will be announced on 28 June.
