Naya Rivera's ex husband says their five-year-old son asks how to visit his mother in heaven
Naya Rivera’s ex-husband has revealed that their five-year-old son has asked to visit his mother in heaven.
On Tuesday, Ryan Dorsey shared an emotional video to Instagram, during which he reflected on the weeks since Naya’s death.
According to Dorsey, who shares son Josey with Naya, the five-year-old “witnessed a nightmare right before his eyes” when he watched his mother drown during a boating outing at Lake Piru in Ventura, California in July.
In the video, Dorsey said he’s told his son that his mother is “an angel now and she’s with God and she’s in heaven.”
“And he says: ‘Well, I want to go there. How do I get there?”
“I wouldn’t wish that upon any of your ears to have to hear those words come out of the sweetest soul you know,” Dorsey said.
During the 12-minute clip, the 37-year-old, who was married to Naya from 2014 to 2018, also confirmed that he is living with the late Glee star’s sister Nickayla Rivera, who has been helping raise Josey.
Explaining that he is “lucky” to have “family on both sides who support and who have helped out tremendously” since Naya’s death, Dorsey said: “And to have a young woman who is his blood and tití, who is willing to put her life on hold and sacrifice things, uproot her situation for the betterment of your child so when you put your child to bed, you don’t always have to be alone with your thoughts.
″You don't have to be sad every day and night, wondering when does it get better. At least you have someone there with you to talk to, or just sit in silence and be sad with. You don’t have to deal with it completely alone.″
Dorsey’s explanation comes a day after Nickayla opened up about the family’s living situation on Instagram, where she explained that she is “showing up” for her nephew following the death of her sister.
“In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends and family,” the 25-year-old wrote. “Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself.”
“I’m not concerned with the way things look because no one can see each agonising moment we all endure,” she continued. “What matters most, I’ve learned, is to show compassion, not to judge others, and never take a moment of life for granted.”
Naya, who was best known for playing Santana on Glee, died on 8 July at the age of 33. Her body was recovered on 13 July and her death was ruled an accidental drowning.
