One bettor put $35,000 on the Los Angeles Clippers to win the NBA championship, knowing they were one loss from being eliminated in the first round.
The wager was placed with BetMGM on Saturday, a day before the Clippers were to play Game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks with their season on the line. The Clippers hadn't won a home game in the series yet. They were facing Luka Doncic, who was capable of turning out the Clippers' lights if he got any help at all.
Doncic played a great Game 7, but he didn't get much help and the Clippers moved on. So did an enormous future bet on Los Angeles.
Big bet on Clippers stays alive
The bettor who put $35,000 on the Clippers to win the NBA title before Game 7 got 6-to-1 odds. The bet would pay $210,000 if the Clippers win it all.
The Clippers' odds have moved some after winning Game 7, but not as much as you might figure after turning away the Mavs. They are +500 to win it all. Here are the updated NBA championship odds at BetMGM as of Monday morning:
The Clippers are the third favorite to win the NBA title, which is the good news. The bad news is they get the second favorite, the Utah Jazz, in the second round.
There was a massive Game 7 bet on Clippers too
To the bettor who put the big bet on the Clippers to win the title, that move in odds is significant. The difference between 6-to-1 odds and 5-to-1 odds on that bet would be $35,000 in winnings.
There was also an enormous bet on the Clippers to win Game 7 at BetMGM. Someone placed $481,250 to win $175,000 on the Clippers' moneyline, which was -275. That's one of the biggest NBA bets you'll see. And it paid off when the Clippers pulled away and won. The Clippers covered the 6.5-point spread too.
The Clippers are one of the NBA's most talented teams. They're an intriguing +115 underdog against the Jazz this round. The Clippers are still an interesting play to win the NBA title, given their odds and how the West is fairly wide open. One bettor is rooting for a long Clippers run in the playoff, which is still possible after a Game 7 win on Sunday.
