NCIS and its spin-offs NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans, as well as Blue Bloods, are going to be making some big changes following the death of George Floyd at the hands of police a few months ago.

CBS Television has, as reported by TVLine, collaborated with law enforcement and public safety advisory group 21CP Solutions in order to alter the way police are depicted on its crime shows.

21CP Solutions describes itself as "a diverse and seasoned group of professionals who have worked with local, state and federal jurisdictions and communities to advance 21st century policing and lead some of the most significant police reform efforts in the country".

"Having an audience of millions of viewers each week comes with a great deal of responsibility," NCIS: Los Angeles showrunner R Scott Gemmill added.

"This new partnership will help us ensure that our storytelling continues to produce accurate portrayals of law enforcement, and will hopefully allow us to play a small part in the ongoing reform moving forward."

Meanwhile, NCIS: New Orleans star CCH Pounder recently said that, when it returns, the show will also address the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, saying: "[The season 7 opener] reflects on the first part of the situation with masks and people saying, 'No, I'm fine! I don't need to wear a mask'. All of those things you hear in the community."

CBS recently announced that its usual slate of programming, including the NCIS shows and Young Sheldon, would be returning in the autumn as planned, despite the worldwide shutdown on TV and film production.

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and on FOX UK in the UK. NCIS: Los Angeles airs on CBS in the US and on Sky One in the UK.
