For the first time since Singapore marked its 50th year of independence, the National Day Parade (NDP) will be held at the Padang in 2019, said Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen.

In a Facebook post on Friday (17 August), Ng revealed that the parade would go to the Padang for the 200th anniversary of the founding of modern Singapore.

According to a Channel NewsAsia report, the minister told participants at a Gardens by the Bay event that the recreational field near City Hall was chosen as it “has been witness to so many key events in Singapore’s history”.

The event was held to thank participating organisations, sponsors and key appointment holders for this year’s NDP.

The NDP was last held at the Padang in 2015 as part of the Republic’s SG50 bash.
