Negros P2-Billion budget approval seen after May 13 elections

Bacolod City, Negros Occ. (PNA) - A member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Negros Occidental sees approval of the province's R2-billion budget to take place after the May 2013 elections.

Second District Provincial Board member Salvador Escalante said this will most likely happen since most of his "colleagues seem not in a hurry to approve" said budget.

The lack of quorum has mostly been the reason why the SP cannot proceed with its session since December, 2012.

Provincial board member Patrick Lacson has blamed Escalante, the chairman of the Committee on Finance, for the delay, claiming that the latter is having a hard time reviewing concerns present in the annual budget.

Instead of entering a "word war"with Lacson, however, Escalante said the people of Negros Occidental already "knew who and what caused the delay."

That, according to him, is the main reason for the political break-up between Governor Alfredo Marañon and Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez who are now vying for the same Negros Occidental gubernatorial position.
