KOTA BARU: A man smashed the glass door of his neighbour“s house which was ablaze to rescue a five-year-old girl trapped at the premises in Jalan Berek 12 here today.
Zamri Mat Nor, 45, said in the incident about 12.30pm, he was at his house when he heard Nor Damia Marsyanda Rafizi crying for help.
“As soon as I got out of my house, I found my neighbour“s daughter crying at the grill door while the house was on fire.
“I ran towards the girl to rescue her but as the grill door was locked, I decided to smash the glass door to bring her to safety,” he said when met by reporters at the scene.
Nor Damia Marsyanda was left alone in the house by her mother who went out to buy food.
Despite sustaining slight injuries, Zamri was relieved he managed to save the girl who was in imminent danger.
Meanwhile, the girl’s father Rafizi Hassan, 31, who rushed home from work in Kota Bharu after receiving a call from his wife expressed gratitude to his neighbour for rescuing his daughter.
Kota Baru Fire and Rescue Department chief, Deputy Superintendent Zaini Bidin said eight houses were destroyed in the fire causing an estimated loss amounting to RM300,000.
About 30 firemen in seven engines put out the blaze within two hours and prevented it from spreading to 10 other houses. --Bernama
