Neighbours spoilers follow.

Neighbours aired Tim Robards' final scenes as Pierce Greyson this week, and now Sharon Johal – who plays Pierce's lover Dipi Rebecchi – has paid tribute to her co-star.

Tim's exit from the Aussie soap was announced earlier than expected when he was forced to fly home to Sydney to be with his family, but fans of Dipi and Pierce's passionate affair need not worry, as Don Hany will be taking over the role.

Ahead of Don's debut as Pierce, Sharon joked in an Instagram post that she was ready to "move on to the next bloke", but not before "commending" Robards for his work on such a "challenging" storyline.

"Farewell lovely @mrtimrobards and THIS version of Dipi & Pierce!" she began, as she opened up about the "all encompassing storyline" her character had been given.

"I wanted to share that the last couple of months/year has been extra tough for me too," Sharon continued. "I would like to commend my scene partner Tim here for our work in achieving our goal of making a seemingly unlikely couple 'work', from the very beginnings of a friendship, supporting each other in finding truth in our respective marriages failing, and then crossing over into the dangerous waters of infidelity."

Revealing the difficulties the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic presented in filming love scenes, the Neighbours favourite admitted that it had been "hard" to tell the story of "want and lust and physical chemistry" without touching.

Fortunately, both Sharon and Tim met the tall order, with Sharon praising her co-star for his work. "We all worked together in digging deep to find ways to show intimacy between these characters (particularly the sex scenes) and I'm proud of how we made this work. GO US! We've literally had an affair WITHOUT TOUCHING ONCE," she wrote.

Farewell lovely @mrtimrobards and THIS version of Dipi & Pierce! I’ve been posting a lot lately Re work and it’s because it’s all airing/happening NOW! 4 years on @neighbours and I’ve been thankfully given an all encompassing storyline that has been challenging in so many different ways. It’s been a tough year for many and I don’t want to minimise anyone else’s struggle but I wanted to share that the last couple of months/year has been extra tough for me too. I would like to commend my scene partner Tim here for our work in achieving our goal of making a seemingly unlikely couple “work”, from the very beginnings of a friendship, supporting each other in finding truth in our respective marriages failing, and then crossing over into the dangerous waters of infidelity. Without spoiling it for our UK and OS viewers, we can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was to tell this story, even despite covid but ESPECIALLY without touching. When it was pitched to us (we have no control over storylines btw), we were told of a story of want and lust and physical chemistry as the driver for the affair and then, covid happened. We, and the producers, were concerned as to how this would affect this major storyline keeping the audience and their wants/needs/ expectations in mind. We all worked together in digging deep to find ways to show intimacy between these characters (particularly the sex scenes) and I’m proud of how we made this work. GO US! We’ve literally had an affair WITHOUT TOUCHING ONCE. How crazy is that to say? 2020 amirite? Now. Onto the next bloke (out of 4), @donhany! Phew 😳 #neighbours #actor #work #covid #crazytimes #staysafe
