Netflix Re-Opens Iconic Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades

Netflix and Caruso developers announced Friday that the streaming giant will keep the Bay Theater in Palisades Village open.

The theater will re-open on Oct. 22 with Jeymes Samuel’s “The Harder They Fall.” The opening weekend will also include free family screenings of “Vivo” and “The Mitchells vs. The Machines.” Other films debuting later this year include “Red Notice” and “Don’t Look Up.”

“The Bay is one of those rare places that modern but also feels like a throwback experience of your local main street cinema,” said Scott Stuber, head of global films for Netflix, in a statement. “Together with Caruso, we’re excited to welcome movie lovers back to Palisades Village and join the local community.”

Added Stuber, “In addition to premieres and theatrical releases of upcoming Netflix films, audiences can look forward to family oriented film programming, 35mm screenings of beloved clasis films, in person appearances and Q&As, free public events and much more.”

Said Rick Caruso, founder and CEO of Caruso, in the statement, “We are proud to welcome Netflix to Palisades Village and offer our guests access to their exceptional programming. We take great pride in our pioneering approach to retail and hospitality and have found a a perfect partner in Netflix, who share our passion for innovation. The coming together of two companies at the forefront of their industries will allow for a first-of-its-kind environment that will bring magic back to the movie-going experience.”

According to the statement, the Bay Theater at Palisades Village first opened in 2018 as an homage to its historic 1940s namesake.  Anchoring Caruso’s walkable town center, the theatre features a striking new marquee based on an original design by prolific motion picture theatre designer S. Charles Lee. The state-of-the-art multiplex features five ultra-lux, customized screening rooms, an intimate lobby bar, and cutting-edge sound and projection technology. Each auditorium features top-of-the-line leather reclining seats, reserved seating and in-theater food and beverage service available at the push of a button.

Caruso’s Palisades Village is a centerpiece within the California coastal community with more than 40 highly curated boutiques and eateries, a grocer, luxury residences, and an expansive park.

Since late 2019 Netflix operates The Paris Theater, one of the oldest art houses in the United States, and the last single-screen theater in New York.  The company and the American Cinematheque also joined forces to ensure the long-term future of the historic Egyptian Theater in Hollywood.  The theater is currently being restored and will open in 2022.

The Bay Theater, located at 15255 Palisades Village Lane, Pacific Palisades, CA, will have ticket prices ranging from $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors and children. Taxes and special format charges may apply.  During the opening weeks, free popcorn and beverages will be served at all shows.
