The disruption of Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) services on 2 February 2018 was caused by “an inadvertent human error during system maintenance”, the e-payment provider said in a statement on Tuesday (13 February).

NETS said its investigation into the cause of the incident revealed that the error led to disruption of the NETS EFTPOS connection to participating banks. During the disruption, NETS services were unavailable for an hour from 2pm to 3pm.

“The incident was not due to any systemic risk or security issues. Nonetheless, such an error should not have occurred,” NETS said.

NETS has submitted its investigation report to the Monetary Authority of Singapore and engaged an independent consultant to tighten its processes in order to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.
