With the launch of the SingPass Mobile app on Monday (22 October), SingPass users will find it more convenient to log in to the website for digital government transactions.

The mobile app, available for download from the Google Play or Apple’s App Store, allows users to log into their accounts using their fingerprint, a six-digit passcode or facial recognition on selected smartphones.

This means users will no longer be required to enter their passwords for services such as checking on their CPF balances or applying for HDB flats. Overseas users can also use the app to access government services without the need for a digital token.

150,000 password reset requests a month

The app will also offer an alternative form of 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) for all users to log into their accounts. The existing modes of SMS One-Time Password and OneKey token will continue to be available to users.

“Every month, we receive about 150,000 requests from SingPass users to reset their passwords. The new SingPass Mobile app will offer a more convenient login option, as users no longer need to enter their passwords to log in,” said Kok Ping Soon, chief executive of the Government Technology Agency (GovTech).

Users will need to complete a one-time set-up process after they have downloaded the app to start using its functions.

The app’s launch follows a trial with more than 7,000 users from within the government, as well as feedback sessions with citizens.

Enhanced security features

The SingPass Mobile app will come with enhanced security features to protect users’ personal data. For example, when the app detects any potential security breach or presence of malicious software on the mobile device, the user will not be allowed to use the app on the device.

The app will be progressively updated with new features to make it a one-stop touch point for government digital services. Users can visit www.SingPassMobile.sg for more information.
