Disney+ UK has taken a slightly different approach to Valentine's Day, with the streamer releasing something less overtly romantic as its flagship offering around the most romantic day of the year. While the platform is playing host to a variety of romantic movies and shows, including Love Simon and John Tucker Must Die, its main February release is divorce-focused TV drama Fleishman Is In Trouble.

On the movie front, there's a behemoth in town as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives on the service, showcasing the way the fictional African nation responds to the sudden death of King T'Challa. Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett — who has been Oscar-nominated for her performance — take centre stage this time around.

Original movies coming to Disney+ UK in February 2023

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (1 February)

Ryan Coogler's return to the Black Panther franchise was always going to have a shadow of grief hanging over it, following the tragic death of leading man Chadwick Boseman. The movie is wearing a lot of hats, serving as a tribute to Boseman, a piece of the interconnected MCU tapestry and a straight action-adventure introducing the villain Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his underwater kingdom.

Letitia Wright's Shuri and Angela Bassett as the new queen Ramonda serve as the nominal leads, but this is even more of an ensemble piece than the first Panther movie. It's a fitting tribute to Boseman, as well as a compelling and exciting superhero epic. That's no mean feat.

Darby and the Dead (27 February)

Riele Downs plays the titular teen in this supernatural comedy from prolific TV director Silas Howard. Darby developed unusual abilities after she was saved from an accident that killed her mother — she can talk to the dead. She has used this ability to start an enterprise in which she helps the dead to move on into the afterlife by resolving unfinished business they could not sort out while they were alive. Naturally, this job has made her distant from buddies, including her former best friend — played by Moana lead Auliʻi Cravalho.

The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder S2 (all episodes from 1 February)

After it debuted on Disney+ last year, this reboot of the noughties animated series The Proud Family returns to the streamer for a second season. Set in the present day, it follows 16-year-old African-American girl Penny Proud and her family as they navigate modern life and its many challenges.

This romantic Korean drama follows the story of Sim Woojoo (Lee Sung-kyung), who is kicked out of the family home by her dad's mistress, only to end up falling in love with the son of said mistress (Kim Young-kwang). It's an intriguing romance tale that forms part of a whole slate of Korean TV and movies heading to Disney+ in the near future.

Fleishman Is In Trouble (all episodes from 22 February)

Jesse Eisenberg plays the title role in this drama miniseries, with Toby Fleishman a recently divorced doctor diving into the world of dating apps for the first time. His ex-wife (Claire Danes) suddenly leaves New York, which presents him with childcare responsibilities for their kids — rather scuppering his determination to explore the brave new world of modern dating. The cast also includes Lizzy Caplan, Adam Brody and How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor.
