Newly-minted chief justice will continue with predecessor's efforts


PUTRAJAYA: Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif thanked the government for appointing him as the new Chief Justice of Malaysia.

In a statement released today, Md Raus said he will continue the efforts by his predecessor Tun Arifin Zakaria in ensuring that the Malaysian judiciary system continues to excel.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V consented to the appointment as per Clause (1), Article 122B of the Federal Constitution, on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and after consultations with the Conference of Rulers.

The appointment takes effect from April 1.
