News of Hamas applying to open diplomatic rep office in M'sia not from Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian National News Agency's (Bernama) editor in chief Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab today refuted a report which claimed that the agency had interviewed the head of Hamas overseas, Dr Maher Salah, during which he reportedly said that his organisation had appealed to the Malaysian government to open up a Gaza diplomatic representative office in Malaysia.

Zakaria said Bernama had nothing to do with such an interview or report. He also expressed regret over the use of the news agency's name to spread such fake news.

The originators of this fake news had bad intentions and a self-serving agenda of their own, he said.

Several Arab language news portals recently reported that Dr Maher had issued a statement to Bernama on the application made by Hamas to the Malaysian government to open up a diplomatic representative office for Gaza in Malaysia. — BERNAMA © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
