Next Tottenham manager: Huge update as Daniel Levy withdraws from talks with prime candidate despite huge ‘respect’ for him
There has been a massive update on the Tottenham hunt for a new head coach as one insider claims they have ended talks with one of the main candidates to take over.
It has been a turbulent few months for Tottenham fans, with Antonio Conte’s sacking in March starting the whole process off. He was replaced on an interim basis by assistant Cristian Stellini. However, Stellini lasted just four games before being axed in the wake of the awful 6-1 thrashing by Newcastle.
Tottenham have placed Ryan Mason in caretaker charge until the end of the season. He is tasked with guiding the North London side to a respectable Premier League finish amid their search for Conte’s permanent replacement.
Spurs currently sit in sixth, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. They could still qualify for next season’s Champions League, although they will have to finish the campaign very strongly and also have other results go their way.
Spurs have been linked with several managers, including Julian Nagelsmann, Arne Slot, Oliver Glasner and Luciano Spalletti.
Spurs were given a boost on Wednesday as they found out Glasner will become a free agent this summer. Eintracht Frankfurt have opted to terminate his contract a year early.

But the frontrunner for the job has always been ex-Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann. He has good pedigree, having helped Bayern to win the Bundesliga title last term and been in charge of RB Leipzig before that.
football.london’s Spurs correspondent, Alasdair Gold, has provided ‘big news’ on Nagelsmann’s talks with club chairman Daniel Levy. On Twitter, the journalist revealed Nagelsmann ‘is not being considered’ as Conte’s successor. The club ‘insist they have not met with him and do not intend to’.
Tottenham end Julian Nagelsmann rumours
Spurs have ‘plenty of respect’ for the German, who at 35 years old is one of the youngest and most promising coaches in Europe.
However, he is ‘not the one for them’ at this moment in time. Gold ends his update by stating Nagelsmann is a ‘big candidate out of the running’.
There is no mention of who might be the new frontrunner to fill the Spurs hot seat. But attention will almost certainly turn to Slot, Glasner and Spalletti.
Out of those, Spurs fans would probably most like to see Spalletti arrive at the club. The 64-year-old has done a brilliant job at Napoli, helping them to win their first Serie A title in 33 years this season.
Normally, it would be hard to prise a title-winning manager away from a club he has done so much for. However, there are growing rumours that an exodus will take place at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer.
Players such as Kim Min-jae, Victor Osimhen and Stanislav Lobotka could leave. And they might be followed out of Napoli by sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
If all of these exits go through then Spalletti might begin to worry that Napoli will decline next season. And this would aid Spurs as they look to bring the Italian to the Prem.
Meanwhile, Spurs have been backed to help their next manager out by signing a Manchester City star and an England regular.
