NFL betting: Bettors aren't shy about backing Rams and Chiefs to cover big numbers on the road

Bettors are not swayed by some road favorites having to cover a big number on Sunday.

Both the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs are the overwhelming choice of bettors at BetMGM ahead of Week 6. The Rams are the choice of 81% of bettors to cover a 9.5-point spread at the New York Giants. Those bets make up 89% of the handle.

There’s a sharps and squares split on the total. Nearly 60% of wagers think the game will end under the points total of 48.5, but those bets make up 38% of the handle.

Bettors are also liking the Chiefs to cover a 6.5-point spread at the Washington Football Team. The Chiefs are getting 77% of bets and 84% of the handle despite a 2-3 start and a defense that has had problems stopping opposing offenses. Just 58% of the moneyline bets are on the Chiefs to win straight up at -275, but those bets make up an incredible 96% of the handle.

Sharps favoring the moneyline as a hedge on the Chiefs makes sense. KC has had trouble covering the spread dating back to the second half of the 2020 season and Kansas City is just 1-4 against the spread so far in 2021.

The Bills are favored by less than the Chiefs and bettors really like the numbers they’re giving their opponents on the road. The Bills are 5.5-point favorites at Tennessee on Monday night and are getting 70% of bets and 89% of the handle on wagers on the point spread. Much like the Chiefs, big money bettors like the Bills on the moneyline. While less than 60% of moneyline bets are on the Bills at -250, those bets make up 91% of the handle.

Chargers getting lots of action as an underdog

The biggest game of the weekend may be the Chargers’ trip to Baltimore. And bettors are backing the Chargers as L.A. is getting points. The Chargers have been bet down to 2.5-point underdogs from 3.5 points as 78% of bets and 87% of the handle is on Los Angeles to cover.

Moneyline bettors are even more bullish on the Chargers. Just over 50% of bettors like the Ravens (-145) on the moneyline but those bets make up just 20% of the handle.

Sharps are also favoring the Browns to cover 3.5 points at the Cardinals. The Cardinals are getting two-thirds of the bets against the spread but just approximately one-third of the handle in a game that has been bet down considerably.

The total for Cleveland and Arizona opened at 53.5 and is all the way down to 49 after 89% of the money has been wagered on the under. That under money comes from just 45% of the bets.

Bettors bullish on Cowboys

Dallas hosts New England on Sunday and there aren’t too many people who think Mac Jones and the Patriots are going to cover a 3.5-point spread. The Cowboys are getting nearly 75% of the bets and those bets comprise 81% of the handle. Over 95% of the money wagered on the moneyline is on the Cowboys at -185.
