Eagles, CB Avonte Maddox agree to 3-year, $22.5 million extension

The Philadelphia Eagles are continuing to hand out extensions to build out their core for the next few years. On Saturday, it was Avonte Maddox's turn.

The Eagles announced that they've signed Maddox to a three-year, $22.5 million extension. The deal runs through the 2024 season, and he will reportedly get $13.3 million guaranteed.

Maddox is the fourth member of the Eagles' 2018 draft class to sign an extension with the team since the 2021 season began. In September, offensive tackle Jordan Mailata signed a four-year, $64 million contract, and defensive end Josh Sweat signed a three-year, $40 million deal. Just a few days before Maddox signed, tight end Dallas Goedert signed a four-year, $59 million contract.

Maddox is pretty happy that so many guys from his draft class are staying with the Eagles long term, but he's especially happy about Goedert, his roommate and close friend.

"It's super special that our draft class has signed," Maddox said via the team website. "We came in together and now we're here for our second contracts. Jordan came up and dapped me up and Sweaty gave me some love. Of course, Dallas and I are happy for each other, too. The plan with me and Dallas is to buy some land somewhere in Pennsylvania and build connecting homes [laughs]. We aren't going to live together, but we'll always be connected."

Maddox, 25, has a career-high 47 tackles through 10 games (tied for third most among all cornerbacks), and also has career highs in tackles for a loss (four) and forced fumbles (two). He also has one interception, and according to the Eagles website, that makes him one of just four NFL cornerbacks to have at least two forced fumbles and an interception this season.
