NFL standout rusher Murray retires at age 30

DeMarco Murray, who scored more rushing touchdowns than any other NFL player over the past four seasons, announced his retirement on Friday at age 30 after seven league campaigns. The three-time Pro Bowl selection walks away with 7,174 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns on 1,604 carries plus 2,165 reception yards and six touchdowns on 307 career catches. Murray, a third-round 2011 NFL Draft pick, has run for an NFL-best 34 touchdowns over the past four years, including his fourth with Dallas in 2014, a 2015 campaign with Philadelphia and the past two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. "It has been a long time thinking the last year or two physically, mentally, emotionally. I think it's time for me to hang it out there," Murray said. "I had a lot of great games and a lot of great teammates. It's bittersweet, but I think for me it's the right timing for myself and my family moving forward." Murray's best season came in 2014 when he was named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for a league-best 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns on 392 carries -- seventh-most by any rusher in any NFL season -- plus 416 yards on a career-best 57 catches. After struggles in his single season at Philadelphia, Murray ran for 1,287 yards and nine touchdowns in 2016 with the Titans but was hampered by injuries and released in March. While Murray said he had drawn interest from several clubs, he felt it was time to hang up his helmet. "I've always heard the saying when you know, you know and one day that day will come," Murray said. "I've been constantly thinking about this. It's time for me. I just woke up a couple weeks ago and it started to burn and burn and trigger and it got deeper so this morning I decided to call it a career."
