Ng Man Tat nearly rejects "The Wandering Earth"

12 Feb – Although his sci-fi movie was a big success when it came out on Lunar New Year, veteran actor Ng Man Tat admitted that he nearly said no to the project when it first came to him.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who spoke about his new movie, "The Wandering Earth" recently, shared that he was skeptical about the project at first, believing that the Chinese film industry is not equipped to make movies of that genre.

"I thought it was more of a Hollywood thing. But apparently, I was wrong in that opinion," he said.

Ng also hesitated to take the project since he had to undergo heart surgery at the time.

"I thought the movie would have a concept like "CJ7". It took three years to complete the movie. I could feel the director's sincerity. At the time, my body hadn't fully recovered, and I couldn't do intense scenes. But I took the risk and insisted on doing it on my own, so now it's all worth it," he said.

The movie recently grossed RMB 4 billion at the box office, surpassing even Lunar New Year box office champion, Stephen Chow.
