KUALA LUMPUR: Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming is “very disappointed” with the headline of an Utusan Malaysia article dated Aug 19.
The headline said: “DAP BEKERAS, Tuntut Janji Hak Milik Tanah 999 tahun kepada Kampung Bahru’ (DAP insists on claiming 999-year land ownership rights for the new villages) .
He said the headline was both incorrect and irresponsible.
Nga had allegedly made a controversial statement about land rights in Teluk Intan after launching a charity event involving five primary and secondary Chinese schools in Teluk Intan recently.
“I never raised the issue of permanent land ownership. But, what happened was when I was asked by Bernama reporters, I stated that Pakatan Harapan was committed to implementing all promises in the election manifesto, and these are the same words used by Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu,” he said.
Nga said such malicious news reports were provocative and were attempts to break the unity among the country’s many races.
”I hope Malaysians do not fall into poisonous racist political traps, but instead support Pakatan Harapan to carry out reforms for the benefit of our beloved country in this new era for Malaysia,” he said, adding that DAP was a responsible party and that it had never pressured the menteri besar of Perak and, in fact, had a good working relationship with him.
”We are always working as a team, respecting each other. DAP Perak will stand firm with him andstrongly support his leadership so that Pakatan Harapan will not only look after the well-being of the people of Perak, but also bring rapid economic development to our beloved country.”
Nga concluded his statement by urging Malaysians to avoid poisonous racial politics. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
