Nigella Lawson has shared a clever new way to use up leftover croissants that have gone a little stale, and fans can't wait to try it out...

The TV cook posted a snap of her Caramel Croissant Pudding on Instagram earlier this week, and it looks absolutely delicious.

Not only that, but the dessert also helps you use up otherwise wasted food – always a bonus in our book.

Sharing a snap of the dish, Nigella wrote in the caption: "If there’s anything better than a fresh, warm croissant and butter, it’s stale croissants turned into this Caramel Croissant Pudding. And it just happens to be #recipeoftheday."

Nigella shared the full recipe for her hearty and comforting pudding via the link in bio on her Instagram account, and you can also find it on her website.

There, she describes how she came up with the dessert, writing: "I always think that some of the best recipes come from the thrifty refusal to throw anything away. Certainly, I made this one Monday evening because I had two stale croissants left over from the weekend and just knew they could be put to good use."

So, if you treat yourself to some French pastries this weekend and end up with any leftover, then you know what to do!

Nigella's followers certainly seem keen to give it a go, and the post has racked up over 15,000 likes, as well as countless comments.

"Love this!" wrote one fan. "Always makes me feel less bad about picking up an extra croissant or two from the bakery!"

"Oh. Just fantastic." said another.

However, a few followers were quick to joke that they'd never have leftover pastries lying around in their households.

"Sorry, what on earth is a 'stale' croissant?" joked one. "Never happens in our house..."

Another agreed, adding: "Oh, that sounds great but I never have them long enough."

We fear we might be in the latter camp when it comes to croissant consumption, but will definitely keep this clever hack in mind if an opportunity arises this autumn!
