Niosh willing to help palm oil operators to obtain MSPO

KOTA KINABALU: The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh) is ever ready to assist palm oil plantation and mill operators to obtain Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification. Its chairman, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, in a statement today said Niosh’s subsidiary Niosh Certification Sdn Bhd had been approved by the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council as a training centre for MSPO auditors in June 2018. “NIOSH Certification is willing to provide services and collaborate with plantation and mill owners and associations in the palm oil sector to obtain MSPO certification by the end of 2019 as targeted by the government,” he said. Earlier today, Lee presented management system certifications to organisations that had met the standards set by the authorities. During the event, six companies received new certification, while three obtained the re-certification from Niosh Certification. He said Niosh Certification has issued over 100 certificates to various government and private organisations throughout the country to date. He added Niosh Certification was recognised as a certification body accredited by Standards Malaysia and had opened its regional office here in August 2016 to provide efficient services in for the industry in Sabah and Sarawak. “The certification would create a higher standard of management practice, which would eventually result in better overall performance. “The management teams who received the certifications proved they are committed to implement the high standards in their organisations, including on occupational safety health (OSH), quality of work and products, and also on environmental preservation,” he said. He noted comprehensive services provided by Niosh has made it a preferred one-stop centre for world-class OSH training programmes, adding Niosh has successfully trained over 120,000 people each year in various OSH-related programmes. To meet the demands of the industry, Lee said Niosh Certification offers internationally-recognised ISO45001 certification and other certifications in different fields such as Quality Management System (ISO 9001), Environment (ISO 14001), Food Safety (ISO 22000) and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MS 2530). © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
