KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will take matters pertaining formal relations with North Korea, one step at a time.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government would wait for new developments after Malaysia had declared North Korean ambassador to Malaysia, Kang Chol, as persona non grata on Saturday.
“We will see... we will take one step at the time,” Najib told reporters at the parliament lobby today.
Najib said Malaysia is taking a strong stand in expelling the envoy in order to defend national pride and the nation’s sovereignty.
He said diplomats who were posted to Malaysia should respect the country.
On principles, he said Kang Chol should have apologised for hurling baseless allegations against Malaysia but he had yet to do so.
"Based on principles, we have declared him persona non grata," he said.
