SINGAPORE — Nightlife establishments with dancing among patrons will no longer have to keep to a capacity limit from next Tuesday (14 June), the multi-ministry taskforce on COVID-19 (MTF) said on Friday.

In addition, patrons at such night spots will not need to produce a negative Antigen Rapid Test (ART) result in order to enter the venue from next Tuesday, the MTF said in a press release.

However, mask-wearing indoors is still required. "We must continue to stay vigilant against the risk of a new wave of cases, as immunity in our population wanes in the coming months and new variants may emerge," the MTF said.

However, vaccination-differentiated safe management measures (VDS) will continue to apply at nightspots, and operators are required to conduct VDS checks to ensure that only fully-vaccinated persons enter their premises. Random checks may be conducted by enforcement officers to ensure compliance.

Nightlife businesses were allowed to fully reopen from 19 April with SMMs in place, following two-year-long curbs amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Authorities announced on 4 April that nightlife establishments had to observe capacity limits of 75 per cent for large settings or events with more than 1,000 persons, which are mask-on but with no one metre safe distancing, while no capacity limits were required for smaller settings or events with less than 1,000 persons.

A supervised ART test for patrons was also required – as announced previously – if the premises offered dancing among patrons as an intended activity, which mainly applied to nightclubs and discotheques.
