MANILA — The poll body is continuously preparing for the October 23 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections as long as there is no law being passed to postpone the elections.
Comelec Commissioner Sheriff Abas said that printing, packing and shipping have been activated, and the gun ban committee has been activated ahead of the elections.
Comelec is also conducting biddings for materials to be used in the upcoming manual polls.
The poll body hopes that should the elections be postponed, a law is passed as soon as possible.
“Mas maaga mas maganda sa amin, mas favorable sa amin para hindi kami maipit sa oras (The earlier the better for us. It is more favorable for us to avoid running out of time),“ Commissioner Sheriff Abas said.
The said elections had been postponed last year.
There is a bill filed in the Lower House seeking to postpone the elections.
Meanwhile, the poll body reminds the public that registration period is only until April 29.
Comelec advise the public to take advantage of the remaining days to avoid crowding on the last day of registration.
The poll body maintains the Commission will not consider an extension to the deadline.
“Usually hindi kami nagpapa-extend except lang kung may mabibigat na reason but normally talaga hindi kami nag-eextend (Usually we do not give extensions unless there is a significant reason. But normally we do not extend deadlines),” Commissioner Sheriff Abas said.
If the October elections will not be postponed, election period is on September 23 to October 30.
