Nottm Forest complete sneaky raid for ex-Liverpool forward as insider details ‘secret’ medical
Fabrizio Romano has reported Nottingham Forest have agreed to sign ex-Liverpool forward Divock Origi, who is undergoing ‘secret medical tests’ to complete the move.
Forest were likely to have to make a forward signing at some point in the summer window. Beyond, of course, the early snare of Chris Wood, whose loan move became permanent in July.
The necessity to add another attacker to the forward line was a result of Brennan Johnson’s potential exit. Throughout the summer, he’s been a target of big names such as Chelsea and Tottenham.
Spurs agreed to sign the eight-goal Premier League forward for £47.5million, and reports immediately suggested Forest were in the mix for Origi, who AC Milan were willing to let go.
That transfer has moved quickly, and insider Romano states it’s over the line now. Indeed, he has given his patented ‘here we go’ stamp to the move.
He also reinforces the speed of the move, as he reports Origi is ‘already’ in the UK, undergoing ‘secret medical tests’. It’s not clear how that’s a secret after interest was confirmed earlier on, as one of the next logical steps would be a medical.
There is a certain sense of secrecy if the wheels were in motion on that front before the deal was over the line.
In any case, Forest have got themselves a man who has directly contributed to 32 Premier League goals in his career, and had some very big moments in a Liverpool shirt; he scored twice in the 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League.
Forest will have him on loan initially, but Romano states the deal ‘includes a buy option clause’ which is valid until June 2024. If Origi is as effective as he has shown he can be at times in his career, Forest might well be interested in activating that option.
He’s not the only fresh face on the way through the door at the City Ground on deadline day. Forest have also confirmed the signing of Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi on a three-year deal.
It’s reported that deal will cost £3million initially, with a potential to rise to £5million with add-ons. Forest will hope both new forwards are able to help fill the void left by Johnson’s exit.
