Cadet First Class Ensign Rovi Mariel Martinez
Philippine Military Academy topnotcher Cadet First Class Ensign Rovi Mariel Martinez received praise and recognition from her compatriots in Cabanatuan City Nueva Ejica.
Martinez is the valedictorian of PMA Salaknib class of 2017.
Her former alma mater Araullo University awarded her a plaque of recognition for her talents and skills.
Martinez’s professors said she had been very diligent, and had became a scholar and president of their section.
“Napakabait n’yang studyante talaga wala kang masasabi wala kang makikita sa kanyang negative behavior, kitang kita na non yong pagiging lider nya kitang kitang na yong pagiging makabayan nya napapasunod nya yong mga kaklase nya,” Martinez’s college teacher, Edna Padrierno said. (She’s a very kind student. You will see no negative behavior. You can really see that she has qualities of a leader, she can make her classmates follow.)
Her close friends, meanwhile, are very proud of her for achieving her dreams.
“We are so proud of you itinayo mo ang bandila ng mga kababaihan bilang pagiging top1 at sa mga pitong kasama mo pa sa top 10 na Salaknib Class of 2017,” said 1st Lt. Catherine Hapin. (We are so proud of you. You made us women proud for being on top of the PMA class.)
In her speech, Rovi narrated her experiences in achieving her dreams.
“Sabi ko nga po na kaylangan na po nating tanggalin yong barriers po natin na kong may mas magaling na lalaki. Mas magaling sa babae. Babae mas magaling kaysa sa lalake tanggalin na po natin yon kasi lahat naman po tayo may kanya kanyang galing na ang gawin po natin pagsama samahin po natin yong galing natin para po sa isang mas malaking goal na para po sa isang mas ikabubuti ng marami,” Martinez said.
(We need to remove the barriers in terms of gender, especially the notion that men are always better than women, or vice versa. Let’s remove that because we all have different talents and skills. Let’s unite our talents and skills for a bigger goal that would benefit the many.)
Rovi said her inspiration is her family who has always been supportive of her goals. She plans to spend her free time for vacation before working for the Philippine Navy. — Leslie Longboen | UNTV News & Rescue
