You Can Now Use Your Sephora Points to Donate to the National Black Justice Coalition

Sephora is giving its Rewards members a way to give back to the community.

According to Nylon, shoppers now have the option to redeem Sephora Beauty Insider points as a donation to the National Black Justice Coalition, a civil rights organization dedicated to empowering the Black LGBTQ community.

So what does that mean exactly? Well, if members of the Sephora's rewards program chose to do so, the existing points in their account and any accrued from purchases during the month of June can be donated to the organization with just a few clicks.

As part of the program, 500 points will be turned into a $10 donation, 1,000 points result in a $20 donation, and 1,500 points are equivalent to a $30 donation. Per Sephora’s website, only United States-based members of the program can participate at this time.

A representative for the company told Insider, “With our points-to-dollars donation program, which begins with the support of the National Black Justice Coalition, we want to support organizations that provide critical aid in our communities and provide a way for our clients to participate in Sephora’s larger giving initiatives, and direct the power and breadth of our community to support their work."

However, before you decide to participate, it’s important to note that there is a better way to donate to the NBJC. As Slate pointed out, Sephora actually has a few incentives to set up this kind of system, one of them being the fact that they can claim all of the donated money as a tax write-off, rather than you being able to claim.

According to one Reddit user, individuals would be better off taking the $10 voucher (aka points earned) and donating his or her own money. That way, they would get the write-off, instead of the company. Just something to take into consideration.
