SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) and Safra are launching a trial programme that lets those who have yet to enlist for national service to use all six Safra EnergyOne (E1) gyms free for a year.

In a media release on Thursday (3 October), Mindef said the Pre-Enlistees Exercise Programme for National Service (PREP4NS) will begin in November, whereby eligible pre-enlistees will be offered a one-year complimentary Safra E1 gym membership.

The membership grants access to all six Safra E1 gyms, located in Jurong, Mount Faber, Punggol, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Yishun. PREP4NS members can enjoy the full range of fitness equipment, facilities such as swimming pools and jacuzzi and steam rooms, as well as programmes like group fitness classes.

The programme is aimed at encouraging pre-enlistees to use the gym facilities to improve their general fitness so that they will be better prepared for their pre-enlistee Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) and the subsequent physical demands of national service.

To be eligible for the one-year gym membership, Singaporeans must be registered for full-time national service, but yet to be enlisted. They must also be assessed to be medically fit for national service.

To receive the membership, eligible pre-enlistees must register for the PREP4NS programme. Details on the registration process, as well as information on the programme, will be provided on the Safra website from November onwards.
