The cause of Tuesday (25 July) morning’s train delays along the North South East West Lines (NSEWL) has been traced to a loosened service maintenance door in the tunnel next to the tracks near Tiong Bahru MRT station.

Train services between the East-West Line’s (EWL) Queenstown and Bugis stations had to be halted temporarily as traction power had to be switched off to enable engineers to access the tracks and remove the door safely, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in a press statement.

The LTA has also asked SMRT to perform a system-wide check on all its service maintenance doors, and is investigating the cause of the loosened door to prevent it from recurring.

“This incident is not related to the ongoing tests of the new signalling system on the North-South Line,” said LTA in its statement.
