SINGAPORE — Pioneer and Merdeka Generation senior citizens will continue to enjoy discounts at NTUC FairPrice for another year until 31 December 2021.

In a media release on Monday (28 December), FairPrice said that it will extend its Pioneer Generation (PG) and Merdeka Generation (MG) discount schemes, which is estimated to provide more than $10 million in savings for the senior citizens.

FairPrice has been offering three discount initiatives through different days of the week:

  • Monday – PG discount scheme: 3 per cent discount

  • Tuesday – Seniors discount scheme: 2 per cent discount

  • Wednesday PG & MG discount scheme: 3 per cent discount

To enjoy the discounts, shoppers need to present their MG or PG card, provided by the government, at cashier counters at all FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets.

At self-checkout counters, shoppers need to select the MG or PG discount option. The discount is subject to a $200 cap per transaction per day.

"We are encouraged that the initiatives continue to receive strong and positive reception from our elderly customers. Last year, FairPrice's discount schemes helped PG/MG members and seniors save over $7.7 million; this year the discount schemes saved more than S$10 million,” said Seah Kian Peng, FairPrice Group’s chief execution officer.

Since the PG discount scheme was introduced in 2014, it has disbursed more than $24 million in discounts to PG members.

In 2020, PG members who shopped at FairPrice saved over $4.5 million through the scheme, while MG members who shopped at FairPrice saved over $3.3 million through the MG discount scheme. Over the same period, seniors saved over $2.2 million.
