NUS Enterprise, Salim Group officially launch BLOCK71 in Jakarta

BLOCK71 Jakarta is modeled after the JTC LaunchPad @ one-north startup hub in Singapore

National University of Singapore (NUS) entrepreneurial arm NUS Enterprise is teaming up with Indonesian conglomerate Salim Group to officially launch startup hub BLOCK71 in Jakarta.

The hub was modeled after the JTC LaunchPad @ one-north startup hub in the Ayer Rajah industrial estate in Singapore.

Located in Kuningan, South Jakarta, the startup hub itself has already operating in Jakarta since March. It was a 1,500sqm incubation facility that aims to support innovation and entrepreneurship development in both Singapore and Indonesia.

BLOCK71 Jakarta will provide entrepreneurs with access to global networks, incubation support, opportunities to pilot and test business ideas and technologies in the Indonesian market, opportunities to participate in entrepreneurial initiatives organised by NUS Enterprise, as well as an ecosystem and community.

According to a press statement, some 20 startups are based at the facility already, with half of them originating from Singapore. Examples of startups working at the facility are Carro, Viddsee, Circles.Life, HelloBill, pslove company, and 8villages.

“BLOCK71 Jakarta will be a launchpad for Singapore entrepreneurs and innovators to build ties with the Indonesian startup community, and explore opportunities to work together. This is an example of what we hope to achieve with a network of partners to build a Global Innovation Alliance, which was a recommendation by the Singapore Committee on the Future Economy earlier this year,” explained Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang.

In addition to Singapore and Jakarta, BLOCK71 has been established in San Francisco in the US and will expand to Suzhou, China, in the “near future.”
