NUS partners with Tisch for film courses

30 Mar – One of the most renowned film schools in the world, New York University (NYU) Tisch School of the Arts, announced back in 2012 that it will officially shut down its Asian campus in Singapore after 2014. But even so, the schools film's offerings are now available again through a partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS).

According to AsiaOne, starting from January 2016, the film courses will once again be made available and students who wish to take up the courses will get to spend a semester in the city of New York.

Professor Robbie Goh, vice-dean of undergraduate studies in the arts and social sciences faculty, said that the idea of the collaboration came from Tisch 3 years ago when it decided to close down its Singapore campus. "Tisch wanted to continue its ties with Singapore through NUS. On our part, we were only too willing to accept as the school is world-renowned and will be able to complement the film studies offerings at NUS," he said.

NUS hopes that its collaboration with Tisch will continue on in the coming years and it is looking into offering film studies as a major.

Founded in 1965, Tisch School of the Arts is one of the 15 schools that make up New York University, and is the home of some notable alumni including Ang Lee, Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Whoopie Goldberg, Woody Allen, James Franco, Idina Menzel, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Anne Hathaway.
